‘They controlled the game the entire 80 minutes’

The Yeti Jr. Women travelled last weekend to Surrey to play Bayside.

The Yeti Jr. Women were joined by the Kamloops Rugby Club’s Junior Raiders and the United Rugby Club at the Nov. 12 event, where they were coached by Jenna Elidoros, Austin Comeault, Tyler Wood, and Paul Britton.

Comeault explained the results of the Yeti team’s tireless training shining through during play.

“Over the past two months, the girls have worked tirelessly learning how to play 15s,” said Comeault. “Practising twice a week in the rain, wind and dark; nothing stopped them. On Sunday, they put everything together seamlessly, using passing skills from 7s and structure from training. They controlled the game the entire 80 minutes.”

Both the Yeti and Kamloops teams came out victorious at the event, with the U16s winning 71-22 and the U18s winning 51-31. The following Yeti players received special mention: Emery Britton – Best Back; Ruby Kaltiainen – Best Forward; Kayden Crowe – MVP/Hardest Worker.

Salmon Arm’s Yeti Rugby hosts Touch Rugby sessions on Mondays, 7:15 to 8:15 p.m. at the SASCU Indoor Memorial Sports Complex. First session is free. Mini Rugby for eager juniors ages 3-13 will be starting up again soon.
